If your work involves lifting, carrying, climbing, or repetitive hand use, rehabilitation should include those demands. If you play tennis, football, padel, or train in the gym, the tendon needs exposure to the speeds, forces, and positions involved in that sport.
This is where generic exercise sheets often fall short. Two people with the same diagnosis can need very different return-to-activity plans. A recreational runner preparing for a 10K has different demands from a parent who needs to manage stairs and school drop-offs without knee pain. Your plan should reflect the movement goals that matter to you.
Common mistakes that delay recovery
The first is resting completely until all pain disappears. While short-term reduction in aggravating activity can be sensible, prolonged avoidance can reduce strength and leave the tendon less prepared for load.
The second is returning to full activity as soon as symptoms improve. Tendon capacity takes longer to rebuild than pain takes to settle. A sudden jump in training volume, mileage, weight, or repetitive work can bring symptoms back.
